![]() Some with red leaves, some with green leaves, what most would consider “generic Japanese maples”. Truth be told, if you grow Japanese maples from seed, you are probably going to end up with some rather generic seedlings. Growing Japanese maples from seed is exciting. If you care to read that story you can do so here. Not a Japanese maple, but a truly amazing plant that was a “chance seedling”, discovered by a very astute gardener and developed and brought to market by a very talented nurseryman. Honestly, when an awesome chance seedling is discovered, it is nothing short of a miracle and all of us who love and appreciate plantsare better because of it.Ī perfect example of that is the Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud tree. when chance seedlings do appear, a very astute gardener needs to be nearby to actually take notice and realize that something really special has happened. ![]() This beautiful tree, the Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud tree is the direct result of a chance seedling being discovered by a very astute gardener.Īnd. Asexual reproduction is how nurserymen or nursery women create hundreds and hundreds of identical plants so homeowners across the land can enjoy them. Without “asexual reproduction” most of the beautiful and amazing plants that we have come to love would never be known to us because there would only one of them. Asexual reproduction produces an exact clone of the parent plant. When a plant is grown from a cutting, a graft or a bud that is considered asexual reproduction because it that is not the way that nature intended for plants to be reproduced. Growing a plant from seed is considered sexual reproduction. It has to be budded or grafted to a seedling. A Japanese maple like this cannot be grown from seed. The leaves are much smaller than a regular, or generic Japanese maple and they have very interesting jagged edges. ![]() Dissectum meaning split-leaf or cut leaf. The Japanese maple in the above photos is Waterfall, which is in the dissectum family of Japanese maples. Most of the rare, or interesting varieties of Japanese maples are actually grafted on to a Japanese maple seedling, which of course is grown from seed. It’s important to understand that not all, in fact, many Japanese maples are not grown from seed. Japanese maples grown from seed are not an exact clone of the parent plant. Of course, players shouldn’t expect an entirely peaceful time when exploring this world, as “Deadzones” are abound. The graphics in general are outright astounding, with lush greenery and detailed monster designs nearly everywhere, but it’s all of the little details and influence that help make Kena’s world a promising one, including a heavy use of symbolic masks and the unique implications when it comes to how technology in this world operates. If we’re being more specific, though, Bridge of Spirits probably has the most in common with the more recent Raya and the Last Dragon, thanks its heavy use of East Asian influences, from Balinese music to symbols inspired by Southeast Asian cultures and structures similar to Japanese Torii gates. More than a few folks have already compared the presentations and setup to a Disney or Pixar film, and the main reason for that would likely be the stylish visuals, with Kena and the Rot being fluid and expressive, making sure the photo mode will get used often. A group of unbelievably cute beings that help maintain balance, the two team up to help get behind the cause of some trapped spirits and mysterious growths in a village they come across. And at the start of Bridge of Spirits, they come across the actual star of the game, the Rot. Our protagonist, Kena, is a Spirit Guide that helps free trapped, wandering spirits in order to help them pass on. It’s impressive to see someone go from such humble beginnings to something mighty, but this may only be just the start as Ember Lab’s inaugural title, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, could easily serve as the beginning of what could be a legendary action/adventure franchise down the road. Back then, they didn’t know that their next project would become a key player in the reveal of the PlayStation 5, a nominee for the first Tribeca Games Award and arguably one of the year’s most anticipated games in general. In 2016, Ember Lab was a studio that just consisted of fourteen people releasing a Majora’s Mask fan film known as Terrible Fate. The Sage offers the same storage amount, too. The Libra 2 has 32GB of storage, which is plenty for ebooks, but the extra space serves you well for audiobooks, which take up way more room. That makes the Libra H2O more than viable as an alternative if you don’t need the extras. Aside from the screen size a few other discrepancies, they’re kind of the same product. and as I came to realize while using both devices. From a design and functionality standpoint, the Libra 2 has more in common with the Sage than it does the Libra H2O. That includes access to OverDrive to digitally borrow ebooks from your local library, and Pocket to save articles from your phone, tablet or computer to read later on the Libra 2. You can also listen to audiobooks and access all the same services you otherwise could with a Kobo eReader. The screen just isn’t flush with the body, so there is a raised bezel framing the screen. ![]() For instance, the Libra 2 uses the same E Ink Carta 1200 display and its improved response time (plus Dark Mode), albeit at a smaller 7-inch screen size. No saltwater, though, just the tub or pool. For reference, IPX8 waterproofing lets you submerge it to depths of two metres of clear water for up to 60 minutes. So is the same waterproofing and general size, including the perforated and rubberized back. The Libra H2O had the outer lip with page-turn buttons, and that’s back here. The Libra 2 is in a similar position in that it borrows from other devices. It may be fairly durable, but at its price, the Sage isn’t something you want to take for granted. What you may need is a SleepCover case to protect it. You don’t necessarily need to write on the screen, and if you do, you have to accept some caveats. While it may annoy you that Kobo didn’t throw in the stylus with the Sage, they’re best sold separately. In a first for Kobo, it also supports audiobooks from the Kobo store, letting you listen to books, not just read them. You get Kobo stylus support (from the Elipsa), landscape reading (Forma) and waterproofing (Libra H2O). Where the Sage stands out further is that it incorporates elements from other Kobo models. ![]() It simplifies one-handed operation, particularly with the two page-turn buttons situated there. Part of the reason for the form factor is the lip on the side, a design treatment Kobo adopted with the Forma. That makes it fairly wide-too much to slip into a jacket pocket-which forces you to carry it more than you otherwise might. The 8-inch screen has the equivalent of a 3:2 aspect ratio, giving the Sage a more squarish design. And importantly, the screen is flush with the device’s entire panel, which gives it a seamless look. ![]() Not to mention the new Dark Mode for even less eye strain in darker confines. ComfortLight Pro technology also returns, letting you choose between a blue or yellow tint to make it easier to read in any conditions. That means you will turn pages faster, as well as access other features with greater speed this time. Its 8-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display offers a 300dpi and faster response time when you touch it. The Sage is in that sweet spot between the larger Elipsa and smaller Libra 2. It may feel confusing if you’ve never used a Kobo eReader before, though the contrast is apparent between these two. The Sage is a new but is arguably continuing from the Forma, whereas the Libra 2 is a direct successor to the previous Libra H2O. It’s been a while since Kobo launched multiple devices at once. With two new eReaders in the Sage and Libra 2, Kobo is not only tackling familiar designs, but also changing how you read ebooks on them. ![]() Arq - Backup your files to Google Drive, Amazon Glacier, SFTP, and more.X Lossless Decoder - Decode/Convert to and from dozens of audio file types.TunesArt - Display a gorgeous album cover on your desktop.SpotMenu - Spotify and iTunes in your macOS menu bar.ShazamScrobbler - Last.fm scrobbler for the Shazam Mac app.Samplr for Touchbar - Demo of Samplr for the MacBook Touch Bar.Roon - The Ultimate Music Player for Music Fanatics.Piezo - Charmingly simple audio recording.ocenaudio - Easy, fast and powerful audio editor.Loopback - Cable-free audio routing for Mac.Krisp - Sound Clear in Online Meetings.Farrago - Robust, rapid-fire soundboards.Falcon - An open source audio file encoder.eqMac2 - System-Wide Equalizer for the Mac.Balance Lock - Prevents audio balance from drifting left or right. Background Music - macOS Audio Utility.Winds - A Beautiful Open Source RSS & Podcast App.Tiny Player - Tiny FLAC/AAC/MP3/WAV Player.Swinsian - The Advanced Music Player for Mac.Museeks - A simple, clean and cross-platform music player.Mous - Powerful audio player & converter for FreeBSD/Linux/macOS. ![]() Idagio - Streaming, reinvented for classical music.Harmony - Music player for Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play and your local files.Foobar2000 - Freeware audio player for macOS.Cog - Audio player similar to Foobar 2000.Cider - OSS Apple Music client for Windows, Linux, macOS, and more.Aural - An audio player for macOS, inspired by Winamp.Auryo - A SoundCloud client for your desktop. ![]() Zazu - A fully extensible and open source launcher for hackers, creators and dabblers.Īudio and Music players, Trackers, Digital Audio Workstation software.Workspaces - Project-Based Launcher for macOS.Ueli - A keystroke launcher for Windows and macOS.Raycast - Raycast is a blazingly fast, totally extendable launcher.Quicksilver - Application launcher and much more.Start - A superior way to launch applications.Slik - Fast app launcher and web app organizer.Overflow - The visual launcher for your Mac.Launchey 2 - Lightweight menu bar app launcher.LaunchBar - Powerful file/URL/email launcher utility.Butler - The original Many Tricks pony.Alfred - Search your Mac and the web effortlessly, and control your Mac.Webroot AntiVirus - Full-scale antivirus program.Malwarebytes Safe Browser - Get a fast, safe browsing experience.Malwarebytes for Mac - We've got you covered.Malwarebytes Adware Cleaner - Fast results.Bitdefender Antivirus - Absolute antivirus protection.AVG AntiVirus for Mac - Simply safer with AVG AntiVirus for Mac.Avast Security for Mac - Think different about Mac security.SpeedCrunch - A powerful scientific multi-platform calculator with an easy to use interface. ![]()

Seems like the app database is being used to store the Kobo stuff, which you can find in /config/app.db (I use sqliteonline to inspect the content of the database). It happens at this endpoint, while here the values are being read or created. I went through the Kobo code and found out the section, where the reading status is being synced. It could be used to also save the synced kepub information? Or is there a reason for it not being used? I also found out that there is a last_read_positions table present in the metadata.db with the columns: Name That should be saved somewhere and should be somehow convertible to a percentage (see here for the kepub - epub relation). KEPUB has some additional elements with spans containing ids (which are unique in each chapter, so you need the chapter and id to know where you currently are). Maybe it’s a corrupt database on the new Kobo.I am also currently interested in finding a way to save my reading progress in some way. Put a couple of Calibre crash and a firmware update, and that was the result. I connected to my Kobo account when I got the new Libra 2. But, any books that have a green tick against it will have collection management done for it. The next reason is that the books on the device are not matching to books in the library. But, calibre would probably show an error for this. The next most likely reason is a corrupt database. I don't know when the last time someone actually found a bug in the collection management was. If it doesn't, the most likely thing is a configuration error. Calibre should fix this on the next connection. If what you have done is to put the sideloaded books on the device and then log into your Kobo account, then you will get empty collections. And if you are sending new books, it will create the collection entries as the books are sent. That means if you have only sideloaded books, it will create the collections and they will all be empty.īut, assuming the configuration is correct, calibre will do the collection management each time you connect. When you setup a new device, Kobo will sync what it know about the collections to the device. It will sync the the purchased books that are in collections to the server. But, it does not store anything about sideloaded books. The collections are stored in the Kobo server. Maybe I should delete all books on the Kobo and start again. Every books had it tags in the metadata, but not visible in the Collection row. Unplug/plug to let Kobo add the books.Īfter all that, I saw that I had Collections but all empty! I checked the books on the Kobo in Calibre. Meanwhile, I don’t remember when I updated again the firmware and if the Kobo was still plugged in or not, with Calibre open or not. Saw that two extensions needed an update. So I modified the affiliate to bestbuyca. A common problem is that someone has changed from one driver to the other, but, have not updated the configuration when doing so. If it works in one place, it will work in the other. Then close calibre and post the debug log for me to look at.Īnd for the record, all the function in the KoboTouchExtended driver except for the kepub related stuff comes from the built-in KoboTouch driver. If you are confident it is correct, then please run calibre in debug mode, connect the device and let the jobs run. Nearly every time this doesn't work, it is due to configuration. ![]() With both the built-in KoboTouch driver and the KoboTouchExtended driver. Okay: so I hate patterns on a vibrational toy because they’re so inconsistent. They’re a waste of a perfectly good button. As far as I’m concerned, patterns are just a marketing gimmick that we all have to click past as one of life’s trials. Even through just a thin sheet, the Womanizer Premium is completely silent when in use on the first setting.ĭoes Womanizer’s Autopilot mode actually work? It doesn’t apply to the whole toy, but rather just the first intensity setting. You’ll also notice that the Premium claims to use Silent Technology… Which it does. It also makes for the ultimate level of discretion - the second you pull away from your skin, all sounds stop. This minimizes the overall sound of the Womanizer, as (like any other air pulse toy) it’s significantly louder when not on your body. Smart Silence toys only turn on when your toy is touching or almost touching your skin.
